Salamanders Commission - Complete

So it's been a while

Been hard at work on that Salamanders commission (and dealing with some lemons from life, harshest of mistresses) these past eight months or so, and I've finally got something to show for it. Hopefully my next post won't come after several months' break! Anyways, on to the good part.

Salamanders Tactical Squad I

First squad's done, more or less. Still have to do the basing and mess with the meltabomb a bit, but I'm pretty happy with the finished result. Will have better pics when the whole commission's done.

Current commission - Salamanders Base Colors

Got the client's approval for the final draft of the base color (second picture). First picture is the initial color before any washes.

Back in the Saddle!

Alright, personal projects are on hold for now as I revert to weekly updates on my current workload. This week marks the start of a Heresy-era Salamanders army (that isn't mine). As of right now, this means 30 tactical marines from the BaC set, as well as the praetor, chaplain and contemptor dreadnought. Rather than the five cataphractii terminators, these will be converted into two firedrakes, two primus medicae, and one chaplain for the army.

Progress right now is minimal as I wait for bits to arrive in the mail; the only real progress I can make for the time being is model assembly and getting the basing how I like it (going with an Urgall Depression theme).

Salamanders Heavy Flamers

Alright, finally got around to *finishing* a Salamanders squad with the new recipe. Decided to go a bit overboard with it.

Salamanders Tactical Squad (without light bleaching)

Alright, got the squad done. Going with an Urgall Depression theme for these guys, though I'll be adding more debris and such to the more important squads to give a bit of variety.

Green was Vallejo's Gunship Green, highlighted along the right shoulder, arm, leg and head with a mix of light green and escorpena green. Was my first attempt at simulating a light source and I was pretty pleased with it. First attempt at pin washing with Rhinox Hide also. I like the result, but I can tell I'm going to have to do a bit of work cleaning them up in the future.

Salamanders Tactical Marine

Alright, so finally got my first Salamander done. Still need to base it (and subsequently take better pics), but at least now I know what I'm shooting for!

Current Projects - Pre-Heresy Lernaean Terminators

Alright, so it's looking like I took a step down after the first unit of Alpha Legionnaires. I didn't like the way the grime, dirt and battle damage turned out on the first unit, so I tried to apply it a bit different and it came out way too heavy and thick. The NMM gold didn't turn out how I'd intended, and the Sergeant's face looks like crap. That said, they're good enough and took long enough that I'll keep 'em. Ah well. Will do better lest time

Current Projects - Pre-Heresy Alpha Legion

Alright, so now we've got some of my newer work. My latest project has been getting into Horus Heresy with the best non-existent legion out there, the Alpha Legion. After much heartbreaking pain in trying to come up with a version of the forgeworld color scheme that works with what I'm going for (that tamiya clear blue is *awesome*), I tried a couple of other schemes. This one wound up working quite well, which was a surprise since I've only just started trying to paint weathering and rust effects this last couple of weeks. Overall though, I'm quite pleased with the outcome.
